Through the Lens of Faith: Photography Workshop Inspires Creatives
Creatives from across the North England Conference gathered at the Media Centre on Sunday 2nd March for an inspiring and hands-on Photography Workshop led by guest speaker Ashley Bloom. The event brought together individuals with a shared passion for visual storytelling and a desire to use their talents in service to God.
The day began with an engaging presentation exploring the theory behind great photography. Ashley guided attendees through key concepts such as composition, the bokeh effect, and the rule of thirds, using real-life examples to illustrate how these principles enhance visual storytelling. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions and explore the features and settings of their own cameras, making the session both interactive and informative.
Following the theory, participants were invited outside for a practical session around the Media Centre, where they had the opportunity to put their learning into action. With Ashley on hand to offer guidance and answer questions, attendees were able to receive personalised support as they experimented with new techniques.
More than just a technical workshop, the day was underpinned by the reminder that we serve a creative God—a God who designed this world with intentionality and beauty. This workshop was part of the NEC’s commitment to investing in creative individuals who are passionate about sharing the gospel through photography and media.
Reflecting on the event, Pastor Joe Philpott, NEC Communication & Media Director, shared, “It was excellent to see individuals come together who have this shared passion to learn, network and develop themselves. I'm excited to see how they'll implement what they've learned and support their local churches.”
