Many Cultures, One Church Family
Colour, music, language, and fellowship filled Windsor Street South SDA Church in Birmingham on Sabbath, 26 September 2026, as members gathered to celebrate the rich mix of nationalities, cultures, and heritage represented in our congregation.
The main worship service opened with lively welcomes in languages from across the world, including Europe, the Caribbean, and various regions of Africa. Together, they reflected the inspiring global reach of the Adventist message.
Our diversity was further celebrated through beautiful clothing that reflected a range of nationalities and traditions. The stories behind some of the outfits deepened our understanding and appreciation of cultures beyond our own.
The day’s speaker, Elder Lloyd Facey, delivered a sermon titled “Many Cultures, One Family”, exploring the themes of unity and diversity. Drawing on John 4, Matthew 5, and Revelation 14, he encouraged us to lead people to Jesus through love and to be salt in the world. He also highlighted the principles that unite believers: worshipping God consistently in daily life, resisting worldly compromise, upholding our standards, and sharing God’s love with others.
Elder Facey concluded with Revelation 7:9, recalling the Apostle John’s vision of a “great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues” standing before the Lamb. He described this vision as a “picture” that Jesus Christ sent to John nearly two thousand years ago as an invitation to become part of God’s family. And because God delights in diversity, that invitation is still open today: people of many cultures united as one family in Him.
The celebration was a joyful reminder that, though we come from many places and backgrounds, we are united in Jesus Christ and called to reflect His love in our church, our community, and the wider world.
May all our church families continue to reflect the kingdom of God, where every nation, culture, and language is welcomed in the love of Jesus Christ.
