Manna House Becomes the First LIGHT-Affiliated Training Centre in the UK
Manna House Health Education & Wellness CIC has achieved a wonderful milestone in its ministry, becoming the first and only UK affiliate of the Lay Institute for Global Health Training (LIGHT).1
Through this partnership, Manna House is authorised to offer the Essentials of Health Evangelism training, which was promoted by Ted Wilson, former president the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.2 Students who complete this medical missionary training receive official LIGHT certification, recognised worldwide within the Adventist health and missionary network.
This achievement marks a very special moment for Manna House, whose ministry has always centred on two key arms, health and education. Having already developed the health side through its Refresh and Restore residential retreats, and popular Health Emphasis and Country Living Weekends, at Leeming Garth Manor, the ministry is now strengthening the educational arm to equip and send out gospel medical missionaries across the UK and beyond.
In addition to the LIGHT affiliation, Manna House is a long-standing member of Outpost Centers International (OCI);2 one of only two registered members in the UK. Now, with this new partnership, Manna House is uniquely placed as both an OCI member and the only LIGHT-affiliated training centre in the United Kingdom.
The Training
Our first Gospel Medical Missionary Training took place from 26 September to 23 October 2025, a four-week intensive, designed to combine spiritual growth, scientific understanding, and practical ministry.

When planning the training, I prayed for ten students. Joan, director of the Association of Health Reformers (AHR), said we should be like the disciples and have twelve. Then Arthur, our Chaplain and Estates Manager, confirmed that we could accommodate fourteen; and that’s exactly how many the Lord sent!
The group represented a wonderful mix of ages and backgrounds, from a 12-year-old filled with youthful enthusiasm to a 72-year-old retired nurse, still keen to work for God. Among the students were four from France and Sweden, representing the French ministry Le Grand Cri (“The Loud Cry”). During their training, they even organised a health weekend in France to share what they were learning at Manna House to run immediately after their return, a true example of faith in action.

This was one of the first groups to study using the newly expanded Essentials of Health Evangelism Manual, which has grown from 300 to over 700 pages. It is rich with Bible truth, principles of health and healing, nutrition, Spirit of Prophecy guidance, and true scientific principles, together with practical training such as hydrotherapy and massage.

Students learned preventive medicine through the principles of health and natural healing, how to bring health to their communities through a variety of outreach methods, and how to apply the principles of effective health coaching.

We also added several UK-specific modules, including:
• British Herbs for Health
• The Cause of Disease and Body Chemistry Assessment
• UK Legal Guidelines for Unregistered Practitioners
Each student was encouraged to prayerfully consider how to apply their new knowledge. Following the training, participants are invited to continue their development through an 18-month preceptorship programme at Manna House, where they can return for hands-on experience and service within the ministry.

Our next training is already being planned and will take place from 13 September to 11 October 2026. Interest is already growing, and we are excited to see how the Lord will lead as more people prepare to serve as gospel medical missionaries.
Transformation in Action
One of the most inspiring testimonies came from Lizheng (Lily), a British Christian of Chinese heritage who joined the course after being invited by an Adventist friend. Transitioning from a meat-based diet to a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle was initially challenging, but within days she began to see remarkable changes.
She shared,
“I made a list of changes I have made:- whole-food, plant-based, two meals a day, digestive walk, Sabbath country walk, fresh air, purposely drinking more water in small sips, liver fomentation. Because of the lifestyle changes, you can see the benefit, for the better!”
Her transformation went far beyond the physical.
“As a Christian I am ashamed to say that I never read the Bible; but since I joined the training, I read the Bible every day.”
Throughout the four weeks, Lizheng experienced deep, restorative sleep, renewed energy, and complete relief from fibromyalgia pain. Spiritually, she discovered a love for Scripture and a new sense of purpose.

Immediately after the training she had planned to visit Beijing, her birthplace, but this time she hopes to attend a Seventh-day Adventist church. When she returns home to the UK, she hopes to open a natural therapy room in Manchester to serve her community. She is keen to learn more about Adventism as, as she said, no other church has a health message like ours.
“The health message opened her heart to a deeper relationship with her Redeemer,” I reflected. “Now Lizheng is ready to carry this message of healing and hope wherever the Lord leads her, both here in Britain and beyond.”
A Blessed Graduation
The graduation service was a memorable occasion, celebrating the dedication and perseverance of all fourteen students. We were blessed to receive video congratulatory messages from several church leaders, primarily from the North England Conference (NEC):
• Dr Steve Palmer, President of the NEC
• Pastor Dan Majaducon, Director of Personal Ministries (NEC)
• The NEC Area 1 Coordinator, Pastor Paul Millen, a regular keynote speaker at Manna House retreat graduations
• Pastor Lorance Johnson, a former missionary and leader within the SDA Church
Their words of encouragement affirmed the importance of gospel medical missionary work and the vital role of health evangelism in preparing people for Christ’s soon return.

Equipped to Serve
Each of our British students left inspired and filled with purpose. Some plan to set up home sanitariums, others to serve as peripatetic missionaries or mobile health coaches, and many are committed to working full-time for God in lay ministry.
As community health coaches, they will also be indemnified by the AHR, ensuring they are covered and supported in their ongoing service to others.
Now, with this inaugural LIGHT training completed, fourteen newly trained Gospel Medical Missionaries stand ready to serve. They leave equipped with knowledge, experience, and most importantly, stronger faith; prepared to share the message of health, hope, and healing within their families, churches, and communities.
At Manna House, we believe that teaching, preaching and healing, Jesus’s method of evangelism, must work hand in hand with the gospel. The health message is not merely about the absence of disease; it is about the restoration of the image of God in the soul, body, and spirit.
