King's Norton Evangelistic Campaign
The King's Norton Evangelistic Campaign launched on July 13 2024, led by Pastor Jermaine Swaby (Host Pastor). This much-anticipated event was preceded by weeks of vibrant community outreach and impactful ministries that highlighted the 28 fundamental beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The community was served through a range of activities, including a fun day, an exceptional display by the Pathfinders and the NEC Drum Corps, a nourishing soup kitchen, Vacation Bible School (VBS), health fairs, special guest speakers, cooking demonstrations, a graduation, and the ultimate sacrifice of service.
The King's Norton church members displayed remarkable willingness, servitude, and support for one another, working diligently to ensure the campaign's success. The 28 fundamental beliefs reminded us of the core principles of living a Christ-centred life. The sermons were masterfully prepared, presenting easily understandable topics throughout. The fun day, tied to a health expo on the eve of the campaign, served as an invitation for community members to have “only a look" at the knowledge of Christ. With food and drinks available, the community’s response was phenomenal, with many attendees learning about the church's regular Saturday services.
Each day of the campaign, the soup kitchen opened at 6 pm, offering hot, nutritious meals alongside spiritual nourishment. This initiative not only promoted healthy living but also fostered stronger community relationships.
The NEC Drum Corps led the health march, ministering to neighbourhoods with their musical expertise. The master guides, Pathfinders, Adventurers, and congregation started the march at King’s Norton Seventh-day Adventist Church (Hawkesley Community Centre), passing through nearby estates and reaching the local Aldi store before returning, accompanied by the vibrant sounds of drums and cymbals. Congregants marched joyfully, children proudly waving flags and banners, showcasing unity and ministerial commitment.
A two-week Vacation Bible School (VBS) ran parallel to the campaign, with incredible support from parents and members of various churches and denominations. Each day began with worship, Bible stories, activities, refreshments, and free play before dismissal. Over twenty children attended daily, most from the local community. VBS concluded with a Sabbath graduation ceremony, where children received certificates, gift bags, and their craft projects.
The campaign also featured a health expo with contributions from church volunteers and special guest speakers, including the Health Ministries Director for the North England Conference, Dr Beatrice Kastrati, and renowned chef Karina, who demonstrated quick and delicious vegan meals. The expo emphasised physical, mental, and spiritual health, offering health checks and guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Spiritual nourishment came from Pastor Jermaine Swaby, whose powerful and uplifting sermons aligned with the theme, "Reflecting Hope: Only a Look." The message encouraged listeners to take even a small step toward the Word of God, assuring that they would soon discover His truth. The campaign's reach was significant, and on the final day, two brothers were baptised. The following Sabbath, two sisters were also welcomed through baptism.
The calling was answered, and Bible studies continue with new interests. Praise be to God for the opportunity to share the Good News and help others make the best decision of their lives.
To God Be the Glory!!
