Kings Norton Church Plant Keeps The Vision Alive

10th Anniversary Celebration

Kings Norton Seventh-day Adventist Church celebrated a joyful milestone - 10 years of faithful service as a church plant - a journey defined by faith, service, and community. This anniversary celebrates a decade of God’s faithfulness and the dedication of a congregation committed to fulfilling the gospel commission of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The journey began on 31 October 2015, when a core group of nine baptised members became the nucleus of the church plant. They were supported by many families and friends who shared the same vision. Though small in number, this deeply committed group overcame numerous challenges through fervent prayer and Bible study, igniting a passion to establish a church that would serve as a beacon of hope in the Kings Norton community.

In its early days, members actively engaged the community by distributing literature during Sabbath School hours, before returning to worship at their mother church at the time, Bournville Seventh-day Adventist Church. Special gratitude is extended to Sister Faye Salmon, who - though not a core member - played a vital role in supporting the plant through both financial and practical means. She graciously opened her home, where many Sabbath afternoons were spent eating together, fellowshipping, and prayerfully planning how to establish a lasting presence in the community.

The church later rented Greaves Hall, its first official place of worship, where it remained for over two and a half years. From the outset, the plant was driven by a desire to see lives transformed through sharing the gospel and serving the community in practical, meaningful ways. From these humble beginnings, the congregation has grown to 31 members, with additional transfers currently in progress.

Significantly, the church plant was launched with a baptism, and today, as it celebrates its 10th anniversary, another baptism will take place - one more for the Lord! Over the past decade, God has added 20 souls to the church through baptism alone, a testimony to His continued blessing and leading.

Hope has been shared through a wide range of ministries and outreach programmes, including singing ministries in care homes, tract distribution, evangelistic campaigns, Vacation Bible School, youth programmes, Pathfinder road marches, sports days, fun days, Health Expos, food bank initiatives, and Christmas and Easter events. Each initiative has been an opportunity to share the love of Jesus in tangible ways.

In 2015, the church moved into its current location, which has since become a spiritual home for many. While grateful for this space, the congregation holds a clear vision for the future - believing that one day God will provide a permanent building bearing the church’s name, a refuge and lighthouse for the community.

Over the years, the church has partnered with ADRA and the local Food Hub, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, distributing hundreds of food parcels to those in need. Additional community involvement has included supporting local events with the drum corps, hosting Health Expos, and most recently partnering with Birmingham Area 5 to distribute 4,000 Great Controversy books throughout the community.

We express heartfelt gratitude to all who have contributed to the journey thus far, and extends sincere thanks to the former pastors and their families whose leadership and dedication have helped shape the church plant.

To our congregation - your faith, prayers, and unwavering support have formed the foundation of this growth. Above all, glory is given to God for His constant guidance and abundant blessings.

As this milestone is celebrated, the church looks forward with gratitude and faith to the next chapter of the Kings Norton story. With renewed commitment, the mission continues - to take the love of Jesus to every resident of this part of the vineyard. Remaining a plant is not the final vision; there is much more work to be done.

With unity of purpose and trust in God’s leading, the encouragement remains clear: keep the vision alive, because the best is yet to come. Here’s to the next 10 years of faith, love, and service. May God continue to bless the Kings Norton Seventh-day Adventist Church Plant and all who are part of this remarkable journey of faith.
