District 7 Multicultural Music Afternoon
On Sabbath, November 1st, the Salford SDA Church hosted a vibrant multicultural music afternoon for District 7.
Following a sermon on the signs of the times, Pastor Romel Ricarte welcomed the congregations that overflowed from the sanctuary into the foyer. The uplifting songs of international praise continued into the evening.
The event featured performances from the four district churches: Salford, Manchester Southern Asia, Swinton Group, and Old Trafford, compered by Sister Dawn McKenzie, the praise team leader at Salford Church.
Attendees were blessed with hymns sung in various languages, including Yoruba, Bura, and Igbo from Nigeria, as well as songs from Zimbabwe, Ghana, Portugal, the Philippines (Visayan), and Romania. The Manchester Southern Asian Church showcased many of the 22 official languages from their region, including Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, and Telugu - often referred to as the Italian of the East.
In a world increasingly marked by division, rooted in fear and territorial defensiveness, it was a true joy to gather as diverse groups united by the love of God.
There’s a distinct joy and confidence that radiates from the faces of individuals when they sing in their mother tongue, reflecting the comfort of feeling at home. Many attendees wore traditional dress, waving flags in a celebration of Christian fellowship.
While the languages spoken varied, it was recognized that our hearts communicate in the same universal language of love and understanding.
The music resonated through a variety of instruments: violins, trumpets, saxophones, pan flutes, keyboards, pianos, guitars, ukuleles, tambourines, and string orchestras.
During the event, we paused to acknowledge the suffering of those in the Caribbean affected by the destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Melissa. An offering of £480.32 was collected to support the ADRA appeal and assist the Caribbean communities in need.
Following the musical performances, attendees had the opportunity to sample a delightful array of international snacks, ranging from patties to parathas, closing a beautiful day of fellowship. This gathering served to remind us of the day when we will all be united in the Lingua Franca of heaven.
Psalm 150
1 Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty firmament!
2 Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the lute and harp!
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
5 Praise Him with loud cymbals; praise Him with clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!
