Area 1 Churches Unite for Transformative Evangelism Symposium
Strengthening Faith, Fellowship, and Mission Across Area 1
The Area 1 Advisory Council of the North England Conference (NEC) brought together ten churches - Carlisle, Cockermouth, Darlington, Durham, Middlesbrough, Middlesbrough Romanian, Newcastle, South Cumbria, South Shields, and Sunderland - for an inspiring Evangelism Symposium.
The event was hosted at Glow Church in Newtown Aycliffe, a fantastic facility that provided the perfect setting for a day of spiritual renewal, learning, and collaboration.
The symposium sought not only to train but also to transform - equipping local churches with practical tools to engage and empower members for sustainable evangelistic growth within their communities.
The day began with a Sabbath School lesson summary presented by Pastor Colin Woodford and Sister Lana Ashby, setting a reflective tone for what would become a spiritually uplifting day. Attendees then participated in a series of morning evangelism workshops, each tailored to meet different ministry needs.
Morning Workshops
Workshop 1 – Family Life Evangelism
Pastor Leslie Ackie emphasized the vital role of families in the life of the church, highlighting the importance of supporting them in all their diversity through education, training, and Christ-centered care. He reminded attendees that families can thrive spiritually, emotionally, and relationally when rooted in God’s love.
Workshop 2 – Comprehensive Church Growth
Pastor Dan Majaducon encouraged participants to follow Christ’s example in disciple-making. He outlined five essential phases - Prepare, Plant, Cultivate, Harvest, and Preserve - showing how these stages mirror Jesus’ ministry and provide a practical framework for effective evangelism today.
Workshop 3 – Health Evangelism
Elder André Crawford from the NEC led a powerful session on integrating gospel and health ministries, drawing lessons from the compassionate ministry of Jesus. He inspired leaders to use health evangelism as a channel to reach their local communities with both healing and hope.
Divine Service
The Divine Service began with a warm welcome from Pastor Paul Millin, Area 1 Ministerial Field Secretary. During this time, all Area 1 churches and their respective ministers - Pastor Dan Dachin and Pastor Noel Apugan - were recognized for their dedication and service.
The message of the hour was delivered by Dr. Leslie Ackie, whose sermon titled “Who Am I?” drew profound lessons from the calling of Moses. Dr. Ackie reminded all in attendance that God equips those He calls, encouraging each believer to trust in their divine purpose.
Afternoon Sessions
After lunch, participants returned to their workshops to explore further practical strategies for evangelism and leadership. These sessions fostered connection, creativity, and collaboration - helping members develop actionable plans for mobilizing their churches spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.
The day culminated in a vibrant session of praise and worship, with all ten churches contributing through their choirs. The sanctuary was filled with joyful songs of thanksgiving, truly embodying Psalm 100: “Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise.” As voices united in worship, the presence of the Holy Spirit was felt powerfully among all who attended.
A Movement of Renewal
In his closing remarks, Pastor Paul Millin expressed heartfelt gratitude to all presenters, participants, and supporting teams. He concluded with a reminder from Isaiah 40:31 (KJV):
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.”
The Evangelism Symposium 2025 was more than an event - it was an experience of spiritual renewal, unity, and empowerment, preparing God’s people in Area 1 to continue the mission of making disciples for His kingdom.
