On the 17th February 2024, the North England Conference (NEC) Teens Department organised the Area 6 Teens Day themed, ‘Connected: Navigating Relationships’ at St Paul's Methodist Church in Smethwick. This event brought together teenagers aged 13-17 to help them connect with each other and God, whilst encouraging them to get involved in the work of God.

Pastor Derek Simon, the NEC Teens Sponsor, highlighted the significance of local gatherings in bringing individuals together to explore and experience God's love. 'The aim is to connect young people and nurture a vibrant relationship with God,' Pastor Simon stated, emphasising the personalised approach of the event to ensure every teen feels included and engaged. This year marks the sixth area teens day under Pastor Simon's leadership, illustrating a commitment to making each teen feel a sense of belonging within the Adventist Church.

Guest speaker Pastor Joe Philpott, who also serves as the NEC Communication & Media Director, delivered the sermon 'Encounter,' urging attendees to seek a personal relationship with God. Referencing Moses' divine encounter from Exodus 3:2-4, Pastor Philpott expressed his desire for the youth to experience God. His appreciation for the teens' active involvement in the day's services—from music to Sabbath school and divine service—reflects a positive step towards their spiritual growth.

Program coordinator Asante Ntata shared his satisfaction with the event's outcome, highlighting the effective use of social media as a communication tool. His joy at seeing the next generation engaged in the Church underscored the day's success.

Some of the teenagers shared their enthusiasm for the Teens Day, citing the opportunity to form Christian friendships as a key benefit. Elizabeth Larman, a teenager from Handsworth, noted how she learned about the event through Instagram and the impact of the sermon on her understanding of the importance of a personal encounter with God. Another attendee, Kupa from Helesome, emphasised the value of connecting with peers and receiving guidance from leaders, advocating for all teens to seize such opportunities.

The event successfully brought together 100 teenagers from various churches across Area 6, highlighting the church's commitment to connecting young people with God, friends and Adventist leaders.
