The NEC Counselling Service offers support to all members of the North England Conference and the wider community. Our mission is to promote healing, mental health, and spiritual well-being through professional, confidential, and non-judgmental counselling for individuals and couples of all ages.

We recognise that life’s challenges—such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship struggles, and bereavement—can be difficult to navigate alone. Our trained counsellors provide a safe space to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences, helping you understand and work toward positive change.

We offer support for a range of issues, including:

  • Depression, anxiety, and stress

  • Relationship and marital challenges

  • Trauma, abuse, and loss

  • Faith-related concerns

  • Personal insight and decision-making

  • Work-related stress and more

The NEC Counselling Service, led by the Family Ministries Department, is committed to providing accessible, high-quality Christian counselling. Through therapy, workshops, and education, we aim to enhance mental health, restore lives, and empower people to reach their goals.

Who we help

We serve the North England Conference churches and their local communities, providing support for individuals, couples, and families:

  • Adults: Most of our clients are individual adults seeking help with a wide range of personal challenges.

  • Adolescents: Young people often face issues such as loss, anxiety, bullying, self-esteem struggles, family conflicts, and eating disorders. We offer guidance to help them navigate these and other challenges.

  • Couples: Our marriage and relationship counselling covers areas including communication issues, trust, jealousy, infidelity, family conflict, intimacy concerns, parenting disagreements, and differing life goals.

About the team

Coordinator

Dee Kyriacou is a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, specialising in bereavement and loss. Since qualifying in 2006, she has primarily worked within the NHS as a counsellor, counselling supervisor, and lead counsellor for a staff support service. Alongside her NHS career, Dee has built a private practice in Aisby, Grantham, where she works with individuals and couples across a range of issues.

Currently, Dee co-ordinates the NEC Counselling Service, overseeing assessments, supervision, and counselling. Her passion for counselling stems from her deep belief in its transformative power to enhance lives. Having retired from the NHS, she now focuses on private practice and her role within the NEC.

Dee is married to Pastor Solon Kyriacou, with whom she shares 35 years of marriage. They have three grown children—Dale, Louis, and Johann—and Dee is a proud grandmother to Evie, Charlotte, Amelia, and Aariya.

Counsellors

All our counsellors are professionally trained, members of accredited bodies, and participate in ongoing personal and group supervision. Regular training enhances their professional development, ensuring a range of counselling approaches to suit your unique therapeutic needs. Our counsellors specialise in several approaches, including:

  • Integrative Therapy: A holistic, personalised method combining techniques from multiple therapeutic schools.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Focuses on changing unhelpful thought patterns to improve quality of life.

  • Person-Centred Therapy: Prioritises self-discovery and personal growth.

  • Psychodynamic Therapy: Explores how past experiences and unconscious impulses shape current feelings and behaviours.

  • Solution-Focused Therapy: A short-term, goal-oriented approach that emphasises actionable steps toward positive change.
